Database Management Systems Support

On hand Experience:

When walking into a new DBMS that one has never seen... the first requirement is getting to know the DBMS by spending time viewing each of the databases configurations, and remind yourself to get to know the "default" settings, and know, which ones are currently, operational.

If there isn't an existing schematic of a current DBMS that provides the current configuration of the DBMS, then building one..., it helps one to become familiar with a DBMS quickly.

Differences between:

Oracle, MYSQL, MS SQL Server, Sybase, & Ingres:

Since all are DBMS, the functionality are all the same...

each one stores data, each one allows authorized users to access data, each one allows for the manipulation of the stored data, each one will crash for all of the same reasons.

Subtle idiosyncrasies are obvious, but, functionality for all, is the same,

"Store Data" and allow access to the data based on the individuals absolute

The 2 Differences are:

Accessing the DBMS:

The "SQL" used to access and manage each one of these DBMS... is all the same, except, each one has subtle differences in how the SQL Statement is written before the SQL Statement is accepted and executed.

Functionality of the DBMS:

10 years ago, there were major differences in the functionality of each one of these DBMS... but today, all have caught up with each other, in terms of the basics that are needed today:

Example: Replication, 9 years ago, was not a functionality that was equal by all DBMS... and today, each has several different configurations for replication but the purpose is all the same.

Another Example: 9 yeas ago, table joins was not a function capable in MYSQL, but, today it is, and each DBMS..., has a different degree of the extent to which each DBMS... performs table joins, as well as the many options associated with table joins, but the standard table join is a functionality with all DBMS...

The Process of Managing a DBMS:

1.  Identify the DBMS

The first step of supporting a DBMS... is identifying the exact iteration of the DBMS... that we are asked to support and if there are several iterations and/or several DBMS... with several different iterations, identity them all.

2.  Review DBMS Reference Material for specific configurations

Each iteration of a DBMS... has an associating reference book that describes all of the functionality of the specific iteration of a DBMS... If we are not already knowledgeable in the specific DBMS... iteration identified, simply review the reference material for functionality and apply.

3.  Review the existing environment specifications

There are hundreds of tools used to access a DBMS..., some come with the DBMS... and some are tools designed for different DBMS..., yet all of these different tools perform the same tasks, but differently, so often times, learning the tools used by a specific company, is all we need to become familiar with, because the tool is used to perform all tasks that we already understand how to perform.

4.  Implement Installation & Configuration

After identifying the specific DBMS... iteration and reviewing its reference material, review all task requirements with the customer, then begin to become familiar with the environment and practice with the specific tools used by the company and use the tools to master the tasks required by the company.

Website Development / Application Support Services

Program Management Philosophy BTEKS Support:

Full Development Life Cycle (FSDLC) & Agile Software Development

2 Week Sprints, 6 Week SCR Development, 6 - 18 Month Software Dev

6 Week Schedule Change Release (SCR) Development:

Step 1:

New Development Cycle begin with a meeting to discuss a list of SCRs that are part of the 6 week development cycle.  Each member of the development team chooses from the list scrs that they will address.

Step 2:

Developer reviews SCR description for requirements, and all associated content provided by users and analyst.

Step 3:

Developer begins analysis of possible solutions to the SCR by reviewing application error, source code, database tables, stored procedures, views, triggers, packages, etc.

Step 4:

Developer submits informal possible solution to database architect for approval.

Step 5:

Developer, per approved solution from db architect, makes code changes and tests code changes in the appropriate db development test environment.

Step 6:

Developer forwards the tested changes to the team lead for review and begins design of test material for code changes made.

Step 7:

Developer submits changes and testing material to team lead for promotions to integration testing.

Integration testing completes, and the SCR is promoted to QA and upon all upward testing, the SCR is included in the next Software/Application Release.

There are several different methods of actually creating a website utilizing something as simple as a word document or software that is designed to allow a creator to generate static and complex dynamic websites.  Website Design pricing can be as cheap as $50 bucks or as expensive as $500k, pending on the complexity and size of the website that an individual or a company requires.

BTEKS is completely familiar with any website design that a person or a company is interested in, be it simple static website design or dynamic database driven website designed to display company catalogs or specifically display record sets.  Let’s talk.

Dynamic websites are becoming more and more easily developed but, the black hole of technical knowledge prevails if a small company decides to utilize “open source” databases like MYSQL as the database of choice.  Open Source Database simply means “a free database”, which can provide database driven website design and functionality and not requiring a DBA to install, configure and manage a company’s database.  Be very careful of open source because if your company continues to grow and you never hire a DBA that manages and configures your MYSQL Database, as an example, you will find somewhere in your future that you’ll eventually need a DBA to “re-design” the database from the ground up in order to normalize or clean up the mess.

A Re-designed MYSQL database or a database migration to another type of database like MS SQL Server or Oracle will cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, unless, you hire a company like BTEKS that, cross trains its website designers to learn how to manage, install and configure databases.

Software Development & Testing Support –

Software Technical Support –

BTEKS understands that providing software technical support to end users provides the opportunity to ensure that the finished product is utilized at the optimum.

When the end users have either a good grasp of all functioning parts of the software or have an on-site technical support representative at their side, the product will provide all described capabilities at 100% satisfaction, to the customer.

BTEKS understands that by providing software development support, software testing, and software instructional material design, the best entity to present software instructions and on-site software technical support are the same entities that provides the development and testing.

It’s called “completing the circle”, which is why BTEKS provides the complete circle of software technical support.

BTEKS can provide everything but the software design engineers whom actually write the code for the software.
Software Testers, Software Technical Writers, Software Instructional Material Writers, Software Instructors, Software on-site Technical Support and Software Program Management Support.

BTEKSLogistics and Aviation Support

BTEKS approaches Logistics and Marine Aviation Support from a similar perspective.

BTEKS CEO spent more than 15 years in the trenches of marine aviation O & I level maintenance, during which time, provided a significant role in the implementation of

3 initially implemented programs,

F18 (Simulated) Automated Maintenance Environment Program ((S)AME),

V22 Osprey Aviation Maintenance Event Ground Station Program (AMEGS),

Marine Corps  Marine-Sierra Helicopter Aviation Reporting Program (M-SHARP).

Logistics and Technical Support goes hand in hand in that if you’re a technical support representative, you will undoubtedly perform a arms length of tasks that would otherwise be described as logistical tasks.

The bottom line, get the job done with professionalism and expertise.
